Biennial Honorary Consuls conference
Jean Pierre Latour, the Honorary Consul of Seychelles in Switzerland, attended the country’s Biennial Honorary Consuls Conference held on October 9–10, 2024, at the Savoy Seychelles Resort & Spa in Beau Vallon. The event, themed “The Honorary Consuls: Our Partners in Advancing the Sustainable Development Agenda of Seychelles,” gathered honorary consuls representing Seychelles worldwide.

The conference commenced with an opening ceremony led by President Wavel Ramkalawan, who was joined by First Lady Linda Ramkalawan and other dignitaries. The event commenced with a moment of silence to honor those who have passed away or retired from service. Keynote speaker, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism, Sylvestre Radegonde, highlighted the vital role of honorary consuls in Seychelles’ diplomatic relations. He emphasized the importance of these diplomatic ties in confronting global challenges like maritime security, including threats from piracy, human trafficking, and drug trafficking.
The conference provided a platform to address critical topics requiring collective action, such as diaspora engagement, maritime safety, investment opportunities, and economic resilience. A notable highlight of the ceremony was the recognition of long-serving Honorary Consuls, including Mr. Maximilian Hunzinger, Honorary Consul General in Frankfurt, Germany, who has served for 31 years; Mr. Loucas Elinnas, Honorary Consul in Greece, with 27 years of service; and, in absentia, Mr. Joselito Campos, Honorary Consul General in the Philippines, with 23 years. Mr. Maxim Behar, Honorary Consul General in Bulgaria, and Professor Nikolaus Fouchs, Honorary Consul General in Berlin, Germany, were both recognized for 20 years of service.
The conference also featured discussions on the new diaspora policy, tourism, and investment opportunities in Seychelles. Honorary consuls had the opportunity to visit their adopted districts, where they held discussions with their respective members of the National Assembly and district administrators.
Jean Pierre Latour’s participation reflects his dedication and personal commitment. The meeting, along with the information gathered during it, will help him further strengthen the cooperation between Seychelles and Switzerland.
